My Dear S. I have been waiting patiently for a letter from you but none came. I wrote you last week a line or two. If I don’t get a letter soon I shall conclude that you have sloped if nothing worse .
Simpsons are here. S. N. is owing me about $5000 which he says he will pay soon. The Q. co are also owing me $5000 which I hope to get soon. I am preparing my office for an exchange office & shall commence that business soon I think.
I am getting the house on the hill plastered all through. Mrs Earl is stopping there at present. I am still at Mr Hunts as usual. Miss Pellet returned a week ago. She has gone to Hyattville to her Brother - I have only seen her at Mr Russ a few minutes. The float is not yet through – It comes up again tomorrow.
I believe that is all the news. Now what are you & Eliza about? Do you still love her ever so much better than you do me. If she were not a woman I should be jealous of her for keeping you so long from writing me & your family. Political matters are comparatively quiet & I have less anxiety than usual & would have a little leisure to love you if you were here. As it is I will improve the time to get rested & grow fat. We have very pleasant weather, cool & comfortable for table with plenty of watermelons & such like.
In much love
Your own C_____
If you want any money to make purchases or for any other purposes let me know. Love to Eliza & her family
