This contract proposed the annexation of more land to the township of Highland, Kansas Territory, which would cause it to share a boundary with Iowa Indian Reserve lands. The remainder of the document described the conditions of land ownership within the plat, dividing it among seven men, and prohibiting the sale or production of "intoxicating drinks" on all named lands. The contract includes a hand-drawn map of the area discussed.

S. M. Irvin, a member of the Highland Town Company, wrote from Highland, Kansas Territory to John Bayless, President of the Company and future Superintendent of Schools in Doniphan County. Irvin discussed different options regarding the development of an "educational company" and seminarian schools. Irvin also looked ahead to other aspects of town development, and stated that it would be advantageous to find a mechanic to buy and run the local mill.

Receipt, sale of Hotel share

This receipt documented the decision of the Secretary of the Highland Town Company, John P. Johnson, to sell his interest in the Highland Hotel, and other hotel lots in Highland, Kansas Territory, to Samuel M. Irvin. The owner of the Hotel, John Bayless, was instructed to deed Johnson's shares to Irvin.
